Nyerere Cultural Centre. Ohio Street, next to Movenpick Royal Palm, tel. +255 (0)22 213 17 27. Also known as Nyumba ya Sanaa and the House of Art, the Nyerere Cultural Centre is home to a young artistic co-operative that was founded in 1972 by an American nun. 100 resident artists, most of whom are young, specialise in a variety of media including batik, carving, painting, pottery and weaving and their artwork is for sale. The artists also welcome everyone from collectors to those wishing to try their hand at the arts in the free on-site workshops. Traditional dances are preformed most Fridays at 19.30 under the Makuti-palm roofed buildings. Free admission.
